Pupils at Newington Academy in Hull have struck gold in the annual Yorkshire In Bloom competition winning best school/community garden prize.
Head Steve Kernan said: "We were absolutely delighted to win the Gold Award and it really is a testament to the hard work, passion and vision that everyone involved with our Gardening Club has shown.
"We see gardening and growing produce as a chance to practice key life skills and learn more about the world around us through natural enquiry which is often difficult in urban areas such as ours.
"Our targets for the coming year are to expand the growth of produce further so that we are supplying fruit, vegetables and salad boxes for use in our own school lunches and also to members of the local community."
Yorkshire In Bloom organises annual competitions to encourage communities of every size; small villages, towns or big cities to make a positive and lasting improvement to their local environment for the benefit of local people.
