Home ›New Rickstones Academy Awaits ‘The Buzz’

“The new build is ours now and we just can’t wait to be there.” That’s the clear message from staff and students at New Rickstones Academy in Witham, Essex as they prepare to move in to their £25 million new ‘state of the art’ new centre for learning.
The keys to the new site have been passed on to Principal, Debbie Bull, by the main contractor, Corillion, in a small ceremony with governor and student representatives. She said, “It is such an honour to have this wonderful building handed over to us. It will provide a fabulous learning environment for our students and will be great resource for this community. We are all very excited.”
Sandra Adair, staff governor, was also present and she has the distinction of starting her secondary school career as a student in September 1977, on Rickstones School’s first day, as well as moving to the new Academy building as Inclusion Manager.
“I remember the excitement I felt when Rickstones School opened, we felt so special to be in the new school,” said Sandra. “I can’t wait now to see the buzz from our students when they start in this fantastic building.”
All students had their first taste of ‘the bright new future’ on specially organised induction tours today, the last day at their old school site. They move into the new buildings for the first time on Monday 27 February.
Over 600 former students attended a special reunion for the old school last month. An Open Day event for the new building will be held on Tuesday 27 March.
