Home ›Proposed changes to school admissions criteria for Sandown Bay and Ryde Academies from 2013 and beyond
The proposed admissions policies for entry to Sandown Bay and Ryde Academies in 2013 include changes to the oversubscription criteria included in our current admissions policies. These changes are being made at the request of the Isle of Wight Council to ensure a consistent approach to priority areas across the local authority.
CRITERIA FOR THE ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2013
Submitted for Consultation by the Academies Enterprise Trust (“the Trust”) on 3 January 2012
Oversubscription Criteria
- Children who are in the care of a local authority or children who were previously in care but immediately after being in care became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order.
- Pupils with a specific medical condition, confirmed by a consultant paediatrician or similar health professional, which makes a particular school the most appropriate. (Any application for a place at a particular Academy for medical reasons must be supported by independent evidence supplied at the time of application confirming the reasons why attendance at the Academy is essential or that this Academy is most suitable and the difficulties that would be caused if the child had to attend another Academy);
- Pupils living in the Academy’s priority area who, at the time of application, have an elder sibling (brother or sister):
- who is already at the Academy; and
- who will still be in attendance at the Academy in September 2013 - Other pupils living within the Academy’s priority area;
- Pupils living outside the Academy’s priority area who, at the time of application, have an elder sibling (brother or sister):
- who is already at the Academy; and
- who will still be in attendance at the Academy in September 2013 - Pupils living outside the Academy’s priority area.
If there are more applicants than remaining places within any of the above criteria the home-to-school distance will be used as a tiebreaker with those living closer being offered places first.
Consultation Arrangements
Any interested parties wishing to make a submission to the Trust should send written comments, preferably by email, to: Michelle Forman – mforman@academiesenterprisetrust.org or Academies Enterprise Trust, The Innovation Centre, St Cross Business Park, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5WB
There is no commitment to respond to all the submissions that are made; however it would be helpful to have a return address. Please also state the nature of your interest in the admission arrangements (e.g. prospective or current parent, local councillor etc).
The Consultation closes on 28 February 2012.
Yours sincerely,
