Seven schools, six primaries and one secondary, from as far afield as Bristol to Barnsley, became AET
Academies from 1 December 2012 following the approval of the Department for Education (DfE).
The schools are Anglesey Primary Academy in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire; Beacon Academy
(formerly Shelthorpe Primary) in Loughborough, Leicestershire; Broadlands Academy in Keynsham,
Bristol; Cottingley Primary Academy in Leeds; Lea Forest Primary Academy (formerly Ridpool
Primary) in Birmingham; Shafton Primary Academy and St Helen’s Primary Academy, both in
Barnsley.
Our national network of academies now consists of 60 schools; 30 primary, 23 secondary, six special
and one studio school. The AET also co-sponsors three Mayoral Academies with the Greater London
Authority.
The Academies Enterprise Trust warmly welcomes the seven newest members to its federation of
academies.
