Winter Essex School Games

On Wednesday 18th January 15 pupils travelled to Harlow to attend the Winter Essex School Games which included events such as Rowing, Tag Rugby, Badminton, Table Cricket, Table Tennis and Squash. TTC (Tendring Technology College) had entered into the Table Tennis and Squash competitions.

Over 800 pupils from across Essex had entered the Games and each of the events was kicked off with an ‘Olympic’ style opening ceremony with dance, songs and presentations taking prominence.

The competitors/pupils then dispersed to their area of competition to give it their best shot.

Lucy Burton, Tom Burton and Tom Wilkin took part in the older age group of the Table Tennis. Lucy fared best getting to the final of her competition, with the two Tom’s giving good accounts of themselves against some stern opposition.

In the younger Table Tennis category Sam Hume and Harry Beezer gave great accounts of themselves notching up a couple of wins against some cracking opposition. Sam went down to the eventual winner.

The Squash saw great success for TTC. The girl’s team of Ruby Watcham, Gemma Bonner and Charlotte Martin brushed aside their opposition to claim first prize.

In the Boys Year 8 competition Tom Bird, Jamie Ampleford, Ross Hewitt, Hugo Johnson and James Bond showed flashes of brilliance on their way to brushing their opposition aside and claiming first prize.

In the older category – Year 10 – the team of Callum Neale, Reggie Watcham and three from the younger team (Tom B, Jamie A and Hugo J) claimed the full sweep of trophies for TTC.

The day was a real eye opener to the impact that the Olympics is having around the county. Pupils from across the area are beginning to realise that the Competition of all Competitions is just around the corner and are trying to achieve their best in sport. Well done TTC!
