Due to their commitment to PE and leadership skills, four students have been chosen as Everest Sports Young Ambassadors. Bryce Baker and Alaa Maygi (Year 10) are Gold Ambassadors and Aliyah O’Donnell and Wesley Ridguard (Year 9) are Adistar Ambassadors.
To help kick start them off with their roles, they attended the first ever Hampshire Young Ambassador Conference at Mountbatten School. Unfortunately, due to a drama trip Alaa Maygi was unable to attend the conference. However, Josie Casey-Mitchell, Year 10 Sports Captain, replaced her on the day.
The students learnt a lot about their new role as they rotated through workshops focusing on increasing participation levels in sport outside of PE lessons and promoting the positive values of the Youth Sports Partnership. The students were very lucky to be joined by 2 GB Athletes; Peter Waterfield, a British diver and Olympic Silver medallist and Aaron Philips, a British wheelchair rugby player who competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Both athletes delivered inspiring workshops and were very kind to give the students their autographs and have their photos taken. The day was a great success and the first of many. The Everest students are also part of the Basingstoke Leadership Group who meet to discuss the sports provision in Basingstoke.
