Andrew Thraves - Trustee

Andrew has supplied products and services to the education industry for over 35 years, and in that time has delivered instructional content, assessments, data analysis services, professional development, and back office services to schools and MATs, all intended to improve the life chances of young people through supporting school improvement. 

Andrew is Chief Executive at RSAcademics, working closely with educational institutions across the world to find and develop leaders, guide and inform decision-makers and share strategy and debate.

He was previously Commercial Director for Real Group Ltd, one of the leading teacher training companies in the UK delivering continuing professional development to educators at all levels, in digital and face-to-face formats. Real Group’s training courses range from Teaching Assistant apprenticeships through to Masters of Education programmes.

Prior to his role at Real Group, Andrew worked for a variety of companies involved in delivering educational services, including Optimus Education, Prospects Services, GL Education Group, Pearson, Stanley Thornes and Nelson. He has been Director of Content at the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta).

Andrew is chair of the charity Yes Futures, which delivers programmes to schools and MATs to support the development of confidence and resilience in young people. He is also a non-executive director of Confederation of School Trusts Professional Development Ltd, the commercial entity of the sector body representing Multi-Academy Trusts.

He is an active member of the trade organisations relevant to companies involved in the development of educational services. He is past-chair of the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA), and of the Educational Publishers Council, and Educational Software Publishers Association. He has spoken at the Education Select Committee, the APPG for Education, the Westminster Forum, and at various conferences at home and overseas.

Andrew has previously been a governor for a college in South London, as well as his local primary school in East Sussex.
