SLE Specialism: Early Years

Helen Charlton specialises in Early Years. She began her career as a nursery nurse, eventually embarking on an ITT programme. Helen has held the position of EYFS Leader at her current school since 2012, working closely with KS1 colleagues. Since becoming leader she has been committed to:

  • Raising achievement for EYFS outcomes
  • Working with colleagues to support the teaching of phonics throughout the academy
  • Sharing good practice with colleagues across the academy chain
  • Engaging parents in children’s learning and development, particularly through the use of technology
  • Establishing good links with PVI settings

Frances Green

SLE Specialism: Leadership of Curriculum

Frances Green's educational philosophy is based upon inclusion and entitlement.

Before becoming a senior leader, she was Head of English for five years. As a member of the senior leadership team in a small school for four years, she has held a variety of roles, including responsibility for curriculum, teaching and learning, the Engineering specialism, and staff development and CPD. She is currently Assistant Vice Principal (Inclusion) with responsibility for Literacy.

Her particular interest in curriculum is in the development of 'alternative' curriculum provision and she has regularly contributed to the Lincolnshire Foundation Learning Network in this area.

Simon Barnbrook

SLE Specialism: Leadership of Curriculum, ICT

Simon is currently leader of the curriculum team as well as being assessment leader, although his specialism is in ICT.

Simon is keen on finding ways to use ICT and mobile technologies in all curriculum areas to enhance teaching and learning and engage pupils of all ages.

Simon is currently teaching in year 5/6 but during his time in teaching he has had experience in every year group in KS1 and KS

Angela Angell

SLE Specialism: Maths

Over the last twenty years Angela has developed her teaching and leadership and management skills within several departments, always motivating and challenging both staff and students to achieve their best.

More recently at Unity City Academy results in the science department improved from 8% to 68% over three years and the results in the maths department almost doubled from 33% in 2011 to 62% in 2012. This has been possible due to a focus on working as a team, improving the standards of teaching and using data effectively to enhance progress.

Scott Danks

SLE Specialism: Physical Education

Scott has worked at Unity City Academy for the past 8 years and now holds the responsibility of 2nd in Department (Physical Education) with responsibility for Key Stage 4 and 5, in addition to working with trainee staff and running Apprenticeship Programmes. He has recently completed a Masters module looking into vocational qualifications and the impact upon students’ learning.

Scott has also been part of a team that has developed curriculum changes within the Academy that significantly raised attainment. He worked as part of the Academy’s Teaching and Learning Team supporting with coaching and mentoring schemes with a particular emphasis on iris.

Anthony Livermore

SLE Specialism: Business Management

Anthony pro-actively supports colleagues all over the country within the AET group on matters such as H&S, Facilities Development and also the Trips and Visits process. He has a wealth of experience in: Project Management, Facilities/Operations Management and Health and Safety, holding NEBOSH (National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety) and NEBOSH (Fire Safety and Risk Management) and additionally TECH IOSH status.

The Academy he works in holds a 5* star BSC certification which shows that he puts into practice the ethos of safety within a workplace. Working within a cluster, Anthony has the experience of working in Secondary non PFI, Secondary PFI and Primary academies.

Sarah Bullock

SLE Specialism: Business Management

Sarah is currently working as a School Business Manager at North Ormesby Primary Academy where she has been based for 5 years. Previous to joining the academy she worked in Finance and Administration for over 10 years where she held a variety of roles in both the private and public sectors including; payroll, internal audit, VAT and Finance Officer.

During her professional career Sarah has been keen to continue her own professional development and is a firm believer of lifelong learning completing a number of qualifications along the way including; AAT Accounting Technician Levels 2-4, Certificate of School Business Management, Diploma of School Business Manager and most recently the Certificate in Financial Reporting for Academies.
