National Leaders of Governance

The application round for national leaders of governance (NLGs) is now open and will close on Friday 30 January. The application rounds fornational leaders of education (NLEs)/national support schools (NSS) andteaching schools open on Friday 9 January and close on Friday 6 February. News from the Teaching Schools Council

Following the recent vote for the Teaching Schools Council (TSC), we are pleased to announce that national and regional representatives have now been elected. The quality and range of the nominees was very high. Thank you to all those individuals who put themselves forward.

A list of the new TSC members is available. The TSC will be in touch in the near future with colleagues across the regions.

The TSC has also launched their new website. The website features various articles and resources, including a link to SCITT in a box app from George Abbot Teaching School, and a resource for the new computing curriculum from Codecademy.

Update: new national curriculum and qualifications

To aid preparation, the Department for Education has issued an information note covering the support and range of resources available to implement the new national curriculum, and an update on assessment, accountability and qualification reform.

There is also still time to respond to the survey on preparation for the new primary national curriculum. The results from the survey are providing some really useful information on schools’ readiness for delivery of the curriculum from September.
Opportunity: First World War and Holocaust education
The Institute of Education (IOE) has worked with the DfE to develop learning opportunities focused on the First World War and the Holocaust.

The IOE would like to invite you to explore and consider engaging in The First World War Centenary Battlefields Tour Programme and the Centre for Holocaust Education. You will be able to access leading resources and acquire current and best practice in the teaching and learning of the First World War and the Holocaust. Reminder: exams officer support phased out

Exams officer support provided by NCTL’s exams delivery support unit will be phased out by the 2014 summer term. Induction support closed in March and the key dates calendar and examinations timetable online tools were decommissioned in April. Exams administration resources will be available until summer 2014.

For you to ensure that exams administration continues to be effective, training and support should now be identified at a local level. The Joint Council for Qualifications and Ofqual; provide training, information and exam reform updates. A range of providers also offer support and training opportunities. Schools can additionally utilise existing local networks to share best practice.

Subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) – funding period extended

To make sure that SKE programmes are available to those who apply to ITT courses throughout the summer, the period of availability of SKE funding has been extended by one month.

Funding can now be requested for any SKE programmes that begin before 1 September 2014.
