I thought I'd begin by reading a poem by Shakespeare, but then I thought, why should I? He never reads any of mine.
English and Literacy
Privacy Notice
Rather than just learning to read, 21st century Literacy is about reading to learn and the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create and communicate knowledge.
— Andreas Schleicher, Education Directorate, OECD (2010)
We believe that “Reading is a ticket to the whole world.” We are therefore committed to providing every learner with world class learning opportunities that in turn enables them to use their ticket to access the world of the future and to succeed in all of their aspirations.
Our passion therefore is not just to inspire a lifelong love of reading as our students learn to read, but to actively promote their abililty to read to learn and to read to lead. This passion underpins our commitment that: 'No child should leave their academy with a reading age more than two years below their chronological age'.
We would love to celebrate our literacy successes across all of our academies. If you would like to submit your own photos, receive more information about our literacy activities or share examples of your outstanding practice, please contact Rowena Simmons by email on rsimmons@academiesenterprisetrust.org , rgeoghegan@academiesenterprisetrust.org or hjohnston@academiesenterprisetrust.org
We are in the process of developing our Learning Platform which will contain a directory of documents, resources and dvds to support all aspects of learning and teaching English and Literacy.
