Team GB Olympic Medalist Inspires Young People at AET Academies

Everest success in Cross Country Championships

17 students were selected to represent Everest Community Academy in the Cross Country Championships at Brighton Hill Community College on Tuesday 13th November. It was a wet course with some intimidating hills and long stretches of open fields to contend with. A large number of Sydney's represented the 9 schools in the partnership and made for some exciting races.

Everest Football Team win in Basingstoke Cup

Well done to the Everest Community Academy Year 11 Football team, who played Cranbourne in the first round of the Basingstoke cup. They won 5-1 with a hat trick from Aaron Leggett and a fantastic performance by all the boys! There was also a great turn out from Year 11 girls and also staff who came down to cheer the boys on! They definitely made some noise!

Joe Mulcahy received man of the match closely followed by a number of the boys! The team are looking forward to playing in the next round!

Congratulations to the Year 11 Team.

Tendring District Council Sports Awards Evening

On Tuesday 6th November 2012 at the Princess Theatre, Clacton is the Tendring District Sports Awards evening , which is held between 7pm- 9pm.

All primary, secondary schools, sports clubs, volunteers, coaches, school teams and sports Clubs were allowed to nominate for many different categories. The PE department nominated many students from our school for their fantastic dedication and achievement to their sport.

Everest Students inspired by Paralympic Athletes

3 extremely lucky Everest students had the opportunity to join 80,000 spectators at the 2012 London Olympic Stadium to watch some ore inspiring Paralympic Athletics. The day was an amazing experience watching the blind long jump, wheelchair track racing, shot putt and javelin. It was absolutely incredible to see what these supreme athletes are able to achieve, very humbling. We also got the opportunity to have a look around the Olympic Park and the outside of the outstanding venues including the Aquatic Centre, Velodrome, Waterpolo and Basketball Arenas.

Everest Sports Young Ambassador Conference

Due to their commitment to PE and leadership skills, four students have been chosen as Everest Sports Young Ambassadors. Bryce Baker and Alaa Maygi (Year 10) are Gold Ambassadors and Aliyah O’Donnell and Wesley Ridguard (Year 9) are Adistar Ambassadors.

To help kick start them off with their roles, they attended the first ever Hampshire Young Ambassador Conference at Mountbatten School. Unfortunately, due to a drama trip Alaa Maygi was unable to attend the conference. However, Josie Casey-Mitchell, Year 10 Sports Captain, replaced her on the day.

Australian Futsal Comes to Gillbook Academy

On Monday 15th October, Gillbrook Academy was fortunate enough to host a touring Select Australian Futsal Team for the second time. They had two girls teams and a boys team, both in the under 16’s category. As they are a select team their players came from many different parts of Australia. Eston Park Academy were also invited to be part of the unique experience. Games were played in a round robin format with the top two playing out a final. The girl’s competition was won by the Australian A team and the boys final was won by Eston Park in a penalty shoot-out.

Olympic hero inspires academy students

Olympic Hockey medallist, Chloe Rogers truly inspired a generation when she spent a day with students in 10 AET Academies in Essex.

Chloe Rogers, from Great Dunmow, visited each of the academies, and took charge of a training session, joining in with some of the student's games - Her mission mirrors that of the Games, to inspire youngsters to take up sport.
