AET Conference

Whilst the rest of the school were working through the last lesson of the day before the weekend on Friday afternoon, Miss Cox, accompanied by 6 Sixth Form students were making their way to a prestigious hotel located near Stansted. It was at this hotel that 180 members of the AET, were enduring a two day conference about the use of iPads and the ways in which they enhance learning.

AET Conference 2012

This conference was stunning - probably one of the best in my career.

Dr. Calvin Pike

The fifth Academies Enterprise Trust summer conference 'Leadership with Impact' was held this year at the Hilton Stansted hotel and welcomed over 100 delegates from over 60 academies and schools. The conference focused on the mission, vision and values of the AET and how this is translated into action through the work of both the professional services team as well as the academies themselves.

Over 17 speakers helped delegates to explore all aspects of school leadership and school improvement, discussing what this means in the new educational landscape and how technology can enhance and improve not only the work of staff but also the lives of students.

Any one of the presentations would have been a key note for many conferences and you managed about 6 in one!

Lesley Kirby, Principal, Richmond Park Academy

Highlights of the conference included a presentation from Professor Barry Carpenter OBE, who unravelled the ever changing world of Special Educational Needs with a speech entitled New Generation Children – the Complex Challenge. Delegates also benefited from an inspirational session with Nick Saunders from Insights, who looked at how leadership profiling could enhance and improve communication at all levels of leadership. Marcus Orslovsky from Bryanston Square challenged school leaders to 'Mind the Gap' and consider how to truly prepare students for life in the future and Abdul Chohan shared the story of Essa Academy in a motivating speech entitled 'the future is not what it used to be'. The whole conference was supported by JTRS.

Thank you for organising such an inspiring conference.

Sylvia Crockett, Principal, St. James the Great Academy

Felixstowe Academy Sixth Form iPad Trial

A group of Sixth Form students were given their iPads on Friday 23 March to start the iPad trial. Students were issued with their iPads and started to look together at what they can do and how they might use them in the coming term.

The students are part of an iPad trial, where the AET have provided 15 iPads for students to use to enhance their learning.

They will have these for the summer term and will be able to take them home as well as using them on site. The students will be set a series of challenges to complete including finding relevant Apps (applications that people have made that may enhance their learning), using the iPads to support others in the Academy and using them in the wider community.

The basis of the trial is that students are taking responsibility for using them in their own learning themselves and will report back on their successes and challenges along the way. Students were presented with four challenges. These include using the iPad within the Academy with other students and using them outside the Academy in the wider community.
