Three AET Academies in the Midlands area competed in the first ever 31-Legged Race outside of Japan this week. Four Dwellings Primary Academy, Lea Forest Primary Academy and Montgomery Primary Academy met up at the NEC building in Birmingham to take part in this unique and amazing event organised by Comic Relief and AET's Community Sports Leader; Dominic Fenton.
The Academies Enterprise Trust is delighted to announce the launch of an exciting fundraising challenge in partnership with Comic Relief for this year’s Sport Relief 2014.
We are calling for all of its academies to join the ‘AET Around The World Challenge’ on Friday 21st March with the aim of collectively travelling a minimum of 24,901 miles, the earth’s circumference, to raise £75,000 for Sport Relief.
SKATING LEGENDS Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean are to return to Sarajevo on 13 February to perform their breath-taking Bolero routine - 30 years on from their historic Gold medal-winning performance at the Winter Olympics.
On Friday 29th in the Girls’ Under 13 Npower cup tournament. CCA went into the tournament with a good set of results so far in the coastal league. Students at Clacton Coastal Academy have been enjoying tremendous sporting success this term. Teams from all year groups have been participating in local tournaments and games have been won in netball, football and rugby.
Clacton Coastal Academy has recently launched the North Essex Girls Cricket Academy in association with Essex Cricket. The initial squad is made up of 13 girls and is coached by 2 professional Essex CCC coaches.
Congratulations to Charlie Dilk, Year 8, who recently competed in the ATPI Taekwondo British Nationals. Charlie won Gold and Silver. He also won the National title for Boys Youth. Thank you to Mrs Dilk for letting us know about this fantastic achievement and for providing the photos.
17 students were selected to represent Everest Community Academy in the Cross Country Championships at Brighton Hill Community College on Tuesday 13th November. It was a wet course with some intimidating hills and long stretches of open fields to contend with. A large number of Sydney's represented the 9 schools in the partnership and made for some exciting races.
Well done to the Everest Community Academy Year 11 Football team, who played Cranbourne in the first round of the Basingstoke cup. They won 5-1 with a hat trick from Aaron Leggett and a fantastic performance by all the boys! There was also a great turn out from Year 11 girls and also staff who came down to cheer the boys on! They definitely made some noise!
Joe Mulcahy received man of the match closely followed by a number of the boys! The team are looking forward to playing in the next round!
On Tuesday 6th November 2012 at the Princess Theatre, Clacton is the Tendring District Sports Awards evening , which is held between 7pm- 9pm.
All primary, secondary schools, sports clubs, volunteers, coaches, school teams and sports Clubs were allowed to nominate for many different categories. The PE department nominated many students from our school for their fantastic dedication and achievement to their sport.

3 extremely lucky Everest students had the opportunity to join 80,000 spectators at the 2012 London Olympic Stadium to watch some ore inspiring Paralympic Athletics. The day was an amazing experience watching the blind long jump, wheelchair track racing, shot putt and javelin. It was absolutely incredible to see what these supreme athletes are able to achieve, very humbling. We also got the opportunity to have a look around the Olympic Park and the outside of the outstanding venues including the Aquatic Centre, Velodrome, Waterpolo and Basketball Arenas.
Due to their commitment to PE and leadership skills, four students have been chosen as Everest Sports Young Ambassadors. Bryce Baker and Alaa Maygi (Year 10) are Gold Ambassadors and Aliyah O’Donnell and Wesley Ridguard (Year 9) are Adistar Ambassadors.
To help kick start them off with their roles, they attended the first ever Hampshire Young Ambassador Conference at Mountbatten School. Unfortunately, due to a drama trip Alaa Maygi was unable to attend the conference. However, Josie Casey-Mitchell, Year 10 Sports Captain, replaced her on the day.
On Monday 15th October, Gillbrook Academy was fortunate enough to host a touring Select Australian Futsal Team for the second time. They had two girls teams and a boys team, both in the under 16’s category. As they are a select team their players came from many different parts of Australia. Eston Park Academy were also invited to be part of the unique experience. Games were played in a round robin format with the top two playing out a final. The girl’s competition was won by the Australian A team and the boys final was won by Eston Park in a penalty shoot-out.
Olympic Hockey medallist, Chloe Rogers truly inspired a generation when she spent a day with students in 10 AET Academies in Essex.
Chloe Rogers, from Great Dunmow, visited each of the academies, and took charge of a training session, joining in with some of the student's games - Her mission mirrors that of the Games, to inspire youngsters to take up sport.

East Point Academy U16 netball team competed in the Suffolk schools netball tournament last night. PE Teacher, Jenna Anderson was in attendance and was full of praise for the team, saying "They were a credit to both the academy, and themselves. They put in the best performance I have seen from them this year."
They competed against 9 other schools from Suffolk and played 8 matches of 10 minutes each winning 4 of their matches. Congratulations to the U16's team!
On Thursday 20th September, seven students from Tendring Technology College met up with students from Clacton Coastal Academy to take part in making a short instructional video for the English Cricket Board. The ‘Howzat’ video will be shown to trainee coaches throughout England and Wales so that they can learn new ways to get children engaged and involved in cricket.
At Tendring Technology College we have many students that compete at National and County level. These students put alot of extra time and effort in their selected sport. Well done to all.
On Tuesday 6th November 2012 at the Princess Theatre Clacton is the Tendring Sports Awards evening. All these students will have been nominated by the PE staff for the U18 sp and over 18 sports personality of the year. Hopefully TTC will have many winners and commendations for the students below.
Other nominations are for U18 team of the year – Girls Athletics, Netball.
Felixstowe Academy Garrison Campus saw in their second Sports Presentation Evening with special guest Montell Douglas – British sprinter and current British record holder for the 100 metres at 11.05 seconds. The aim of the evening was to award and celebrate the students successes for the year. The evening started with a photo presentation of students in sport during 2011-2012 accompanied with music from Felixstowe Academy Jazz Band.
The Sharks Academy is now in its Eleventh Year, is accredited by SA Rugby and is backed by a strategic partnership with the Sharks, one the most successful unions in the Rugby World. The Sharks Academy offers a well balanced full-time course, including Tertiary Studies, designed for top young players with a passion for rugby and a desire to forge a career in the sport.
The Everest Community Academy PE department have offered year 11 students a slightly different type of activity to the normal options for core PE this term. Alternative Fitness is a company based in Andover running Cross fit training sessions to paying members. The cross fit training is centred around strength and conditioning and develops the techniques used in Olympic weight lifting to increase muscles strength and definition. Students have been given the opportunity to experience Olympic weight lifting in a fun and physical way. Learning the techniques of the squat, dead lift and moving onto more complex exercises.
Gareth Millings, owner of alternativefitness.co.uk, delivers the sessions on a Tuesday period 5 to around 18 students. Each student is put through their paces in a very different form of training which they have really enjoyed.
The Everest Community Academy PE department are hoping to continue this link with the club and introduce it to other year groups as the year progresses.

Our (Tendring Technology College) Under 18 Boys Volleyball team travelled to the Boswells School on Sunday 22nd January, to compete in Round 2 of the National Junior Volleyball Championships.
The competition started promptly at 11.00am with four teams competing for two places in the Quarter Finals. Playing in this round were Tendring, two teams from the Boswells School and a team from the Chadwell Heath Academy.
On Wednesday 18th January 15 pupils travelled to Harlow to attend the Winter Essex School Games which included events such as Rowing, Tag Rugby, Badminton, Table Cricket, Table Tennis and Squash. TTC (Tendring Technology College) had entered into the Table Tennis and Squash competitions.
Over 800 pupils from across Essex had entered the Games and each of the events was kicked off with an ‘Olympic’ style opening ceremony with dance, songs and presentations taking prominence.
The competitors/pupils then dispersed to their area of competition to give it their best shot.
The under 13 girls football team continued with their impressive performances on the pitch by winning their quarter final fixture against Stanway School. The girls started the game the better with plenty of flowing attacking football, constantly putting pressure on the Stanway defence and goalkeeper. Captain Zoe Willis broke the deadlock with a dazzling run slotting the ball past the keeper. Greensward kept the pressure on and within minutes were 2-0 up when Jess Harper broke free from the defence and lobbed the goalkeeper from 25 yards out.
Last week was very successful for Ben, taking part in his first International he managed 4 personal best lifts as well as two British records along with a new title of Commonwealth Champion. He finished with a 150kg squat, 100kg bench press and 172.5kg deadlift which gave a total of 422.5kg. As well as breaking the British Bench Press record this was also enough to secure the British Junior total record in addition to 4 gold medals.
Elizabeth Beaver, Maltings Academy 6th Form College, took part in her first Senior Nationals competition at the weekend in Sheffield. The competition is seen as the pinnacle of the season amongst fencers as it produces the National Champions in the six weapon categories.
Basingstoke based skater Danielle Harrison capped a brilliant season as she took third place / bronze medal in the Advanced Novice Ladies class of the British Figure Ice Skating Championships at Ice Sheffield in November.
Students from Years 7 to 11 took part in the annual North West Essex Cross Country Championships at the Discovery Centre, Great Notley. This event included students from all of the secondary schools in our district where there was, on average, 40 competitors per age group.

On Tuesday 22nd November 18 Schools took part in this year’s District Cross Country from the Colchester and Tendring District. The first ten places in each race would be invited to represent Essex in the county competition.
Congratulations to Danny Reason in Year 8 at Greensward Academy who was recently named by Rochford District Council as the Young Sports Personality of the Year for his outstanding achievements in karate. Danny was very shocked and delighted to win and was given a large round of applause by the two hundred guests that attended. Councillor Simon Smith presented Danny with a large shield with his name on, a glass plaque to keep, a framed certificate and a cheque for £100 to help with his training expenses.
Congratulations to Lloyd Letkey in Year 9 at Greensward Academy who participated in the Southend International Judo tournament on 5 November competing against competitors from different countries, including Sweden and Poland. Along with Lloyd in the competition was the British number one for Judo. Lloyd went through the competition undefeated and after a close fight in the final, Lloyd came out on top and won the Gold Medal. Well done and keep up the hard work!
The Greensward Academy under 13 girls football which is made up of a combination of year 7 and year 8 students have had a great start to the football season. The season started with a very impressive win against Gravesend Grammar School for Girls in the English Schools National Competition. The game was extremely close and ended 2-2 with Ria Toovey and Zoe Willis scoring the goals. After extra time the score was still level so a nervous group of girls were chosen for the penalty shootout.
Through Community Sports, AET aims to support the achievement and development of young people through participation and excellence in sport and involvement in the community. Well done to George Copsey, Year 10 Garrison Campus, on his success at the Suffolk Schools Golf Championships, which took place at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club on 11 October. Sixty of the best players from schools across Suffolk were selected to participate and the competition was over eighteen holes. George came first in the U16 competition and second in the U18 competition. Well done George – what a fantastic achievement!
On Wednesday 12th October Tendring Technology College went to Mannigtree to play in the local Netball tournament. It was a great evening with Tendring winning all their games and becoming Tournament winners. Excellent shooting by Olivia Leonardi, Eleanor Buxton and Amy Lovell and great inter passing between Abby Compton and Sophie Lane. The defence was strong with Lacey Devaux keeping the scores down with fantastic marking.
16TH July 2010 saw the first AET golf competition at Rivenhall Oaks Golf Club and this was kindly sponsored by HSBC and David Valentine of the company was on hand to present the trophies.
The event was closing contested but Greensward Academy came out overall winners in a fantastic day of golf.
We would like to thank Rivenhall Oaks Golf Club and especially the manager Bill Chapman who made the day possible as well as David Valentine of HSBC who sponsored the event by giving each player a baseball cap and awarded golf balls and umbrellas as further prizes.
World ranked number 5 snooker ace, Ali Carter, hosted the second annual AET Academies Enterprise Trust Snooker Competition between Greensward, Maltings and New Rickstones Academy at the Chelmsford Snooker Centre.
